The national pet show-
Last weekend I visited the NEC to go to the National Pet Show. I had never gone before and I wanted to go for a day out to experience it and see what it was like. The national pet show was a great day out. There was so much to do and so many different animals which made it very interesting. The highlight of my visit had to be the insect stand where you got to hold many different species of insects such as Giant Millipedes, stick insects and Hissing Cockroaches. I had already considered getting a tank in which to keep Hissing Cockroaches and stick insects. This has inspired me even more to do it. I am facinated with all insects, when I was younger I was out in the garden all the time looking for them. I held a whip scorpion which was an extremely interesting experience. Its incredible how evolution has led to such an animal that it appears somewhere inbetween a scorpion and a spider. I also held a giant african land snail which was very slimey and super cool. I fed alpaca's which was quite funny and stroked a donkey. I held an electus parrot on my hand and had a large species of snake (I can't remember the species exactly) around my shoulders. I cuddled a rescue chicken and stroked a frizzle chicken. They were really sweet. There were many different dog breed stands, many that I had not heard about. I got smacked in the face by a bloodhounds paw, which was hilariously funny. There were many beautiful breeds of dog, one of which was the czech wolf-dog which was a very beautiful breed. There were rottweilers, a breed of mexican hairless dog (it was quite interesting to hear how the breed had come about...), basset hounds, newfoundland's, staffies and german shepards. Another highlight of my visit was the fancy-rat society. I used to keep pet rats but sadly they have died so being able to handle rats again was great. I had a cream one that crawled onto my shoulder and sat in my hood, chittering. There were many different cat breeds, including a sphynx, which was interesting to stroke and some devon and cornish rex's. There were many different cat and dog stalls, with different accesories and food items with which you could treat your pet. There were many stands selling items for people like clothes and ornaments which you can remember your pet with. There were many different trusts like the humanimal trust which is trying to get vetenary and human medical science to work together. There was also the blue cross, manchester dogs home and the woodland trust, who I had a very interesting conversation with. There was a birds of prey display with a vulture which was very interesting and many different talks and displays. There was a staffie training display and also some dogs doing tricks. I met the Yorkshire Vet and got a book signed! :D I also saw many other species and had many different conversations about those species, such as a giant tortoise that people get as pets without relaising how big they will grow, fish, chinchilla's and hamsters. Overall, I enjoyed the day. It was tiring and very crowded in some places but I enjoyed seeing the animals and overall it was a good experience. I will be posting a video of what I saw there sometime next week. :) Sorry for the lack of blogs, I did not have the time to post them even though I have a load written out already. I hope you enjoy this blog and the video coming up. :) Thank you for reading and have a nice day!
